Rules That Most Often Void a Prop Firm Payout

Most payout disputes are not about whether a firm pays. They are about whether a specific account qualified under a clause the trader had not read. Below are the clause types that most commonly decide that question, written as neutral descriptions of how they appear in rulebooks. None of this describes any particular firm — check each firm's live terms for what actually applies to you.

Consistency requirements

Typically reads: "No single trading day may account for more than X% of total profit."

A single outsized winning day can push the ratio outside the allowed band, so an account that is profitable overall still fails the test. Some programmes apply the rule only at payout time, others throughout the evaluation.

What to check

Is the percentage stated? Is it measured on the evaluation, the funded phase, or both? Is it assessed per payout request or cumulatively?

Minimum trading days

Typically reads: "A minimum of X trading days is required before a withdrawal may be requested."

Days usually only count if a position was opened and closed, which means a low-activity week may not count at all. Traders often discover the shortfall at the moment they request the payout.

What to check

How is a 'trading day' defined? Does a day with only an open position count? Does the count reset after each payout?

Breaching after a payout request

Typically reads: "Requests pending at the time of a breach may be cancelled."

Payout review is not always instant. If the account keeps trading during review, an ordinary drawdown breach can occur while the request is open.

What to check

Does the rulebook say whether trading is permitted during review, and what happens to a pending request if a limit is hit?

FundingPips. Check the evaluation-stage rules and the conditions attached to the first withdrawal side by side.

Drawdown model and where the line sits

Typically reads: "Trailing drawdown based on peak intraday equity" vs "static end-of-day balance drawdown."

The same trade sequence can be compliant under one model and a breach under the other. The model, not the headline percentage, determines your real room.

What to check

Is the drawdown trailing or static? Does it trail on equity or closed balance? Does it stop trailing at the initial balance?

Prohibited strategies

Typically reads: Clauses covering news trading, hedging across accounts, copy trading, latency or arbitrage-style execution, and HFT tooling.

These clauses are usually about how profit was made, and they are typically reviewed when a payout is requested rather than when the trade is placed.

What to check

Are the prohibited behaviours defined specifically, or described only in general terms such as 'abusive strategies'?

Alpha Futures. Futures programmes state the drawdown model explicitly — confirm which one applies before you buy.

Consecutive payout and scaling conditions

Typically reads: Conditions attaching later withdrawals to account growth, reset schedules, or renewed minimum-day counts.

The rules for the second payout are frequently not the same as for the first.

What to check

Does the schedule reset after each withdrawal? Do any conditions change once the account scales?
